A lot of instances of impaired vision have been attributed to growing old, and most of these may be accurate. But your Flint optometrist can tell you that the bases why growing old can cause vision degradation has not been explained much, so that is has become nearly a catch-all phrase for many problems associated with it. However, medicine recognizes glaucoma as one of the causes for poor vision, so you can ask your optometrist in Flint for the indicators of glaucoma.
How glaucoma forms
Glaucoma are those kinds of eye diseases that progressively impair the optic nerves, changing the optic nerve head and the retina. Two concepts have been proposed as to its origin: (1) the ‘mechanical’ theory which states that the inordinate pressure of the aqueous humor causes injury to the fibers of the optic nerve, while the (2) ‘vascular’ theory insists that optic degradation is due to tissues wasting from lack of nutrition. A new third theory postulates that modifies in the internal pressures of the eye orb injure the retinal and optic structure so that they become more easily damaged. But this third theory is up to now under close research.
Glaucoma detection Usually, when glaucoma is supposed, three tests are undertaken to detect its incidence. The initial test is optic disc assessment, which gauges the optic discs relative to to a set of rules, so that difference from standard may be owed to the disease. The next, is a visual field assessment, calculates how the eye sees the difference between a background color and the color of the object in the foreground. There are several categories of eye impairments listed under this process, correlated generally with [damage|injury} to the retina. Visual field assessment tests are normally performed againwhen glaucoma is detected, just for accuracyof prognosis.
The third method is IOP test that measures the intraocular pressure inside the eyeball. This appears to be the least reliable among the assessments since measuring the IOP could not take into account all conceivable variation in the corneal thickness, flexibility, curvature and other characteristics. Furthermore, there are recognizes differences among ethnic divisions in the construction of the eyeball, so the corneal variations may well be infinite.
The effects of glaucoma
The effect of glaucoma on afflicted persons may be seen in their movements and accidents. Sufferers are likely to move slow because they cannot easily see what is in front of them, and as a result experience more falls than normal. The continuous looking down to see what they walk on lead to physical deformations. But, according to new reports, vehicular accidents involving persons with glaucoma are 50% less than those with none of the defecgt. This is attributed to greater carefulness done by those who realize of driving circumstances perilous for them. There are always positive and negative sides of everything.
Do you have glaucoma?
If you have blurry or unclear vision, perhaps you must have your eyes examined for glaucoma. There are physiotherapies and corrective methods on how to minimize its results, if not completely heal a patient of the eye disease.
